Valerie Kay Bliss, Graphic Designer

Profile: Since I was young, I have been fascinated with print materials. While looking at magazine ads, reading a book, or just coloring in my coloring book, I wondered about the text and images on the pages. Unfortunately, I was encouraged to pursue a more realistic career, like law enforcement. After receiving my first degree in sociology, I accepted a position with a small publishing company as a contract negotiator. While there, I learned the basics of good layout design and had opportunities to contribute my own ideas. I was hooked. and decided to pursue a second bachelors in graphic design. Unfortunately, I had many obstacles to overcome; however, I was determined. To jumpstart my education, I purchased Adobe's first Creative Suite and studied the tutorials. Also, I accepted contractual work to refine my skills. Obtaining my graphic design degree has provided me more insight into my design abilities and style. I am grateful to have an opportunity to be back in a profession I have loved all of my life.
